Our growth, good or bad, is influenced by the people we have experienced, either through casual encounters, relationships, or the reading of someone’s work. I came to poetry as a broken person, needing a voice to express my suffering. Others come to poetry through a need for making or being made. Through reading and generative workshops, by seeing life through a poet’s eyes, I came to terms with how to address pain, but, more importantly, how to live with it. No one enters suffering alone, no one battles grief without the help of others. This collection of poems is an amalgam of my exposure to those people, people of ink and bone, who helped me survive.
